(The Hand of Daddy: set to music) After Rückert Rough Draft

(The Hand of Daddy: set to music)

After Rückert

The day is fine don't be worried, don’t

OK they've just gone for a long walk.

Yes (…) they have just stepped out.

And now they are making their way home.

(...) Now

Don't be worried, the day is fine. Fine.

They have simply made a journey

to the hills. Or (...)  just

They have just gone out (...) just now

but they will not be coming home.

We'll go meet them instead

yes on those hills in the sunlight,

the day is fine

on those hills.

Yes (...) yes, yes.

In this weather, in this windy storm,

I would never have sent the children out.

They have been carried off,

I wasn't able!

(whimpers

In this weather, in this gale,

I would never…never

never (...) have let the children out.

I feared they sickened: those thoughts

In this weather, in this storm, those thoughts

I would never have let the children out,

they might die now (...) pointless this weather.

This weather (...) weather.

In this weather, in this windy storm, those thoughts never

I would never have sent the children out. Never…never

They have been carried off, I wasn't able to warn them!

In this weather, in this gale, in this windy storm

They rest as if in their mother's house.

As if, as if  (mumbled)

Frightened by no storm,

sheltered instead by the Hand of Daddy,

(...) the Hand of Daddy!
